You this tannish beauty
It crushed us,
my ego and me
To know that we can have only
a small to medium scoop of you,
Over an unpredictable number of weeks
Anything more we had to let go
To accept this was difficult
And at times it came out
In lengthy notes to Ferrero*,
To them I angrily wrote
” You have time to share, but you are selfishly withholding her”
I then outlined a terrible analogy
“If everything was a race to Atlantis, and she was an ocean mammal. A dolphin would have beaten her to the underwater society”
Perhaps Ferrero was too focused on other things
Perhaps you were a penguin in that analogy
Perhaps I was wrong about you in several ways
First I mistook that it took
Hazelnuts and cocoa to make you
2nd I was off on how much effort it takes to start
Your path on rough roads and over setbacks
To all the way to where you want to go & next 🎈
Perhaps ignorant I have also been
To not see beyond the label printed
To not have seen the obvious difference
You are not for everyone
You are not Nutella
You are Speculaas
You are Speculoos
with bits of Almond
Your flavor and design especially distinct
Sprinkled on the globe but rarely seen
Brown sugar with an unapologetic cinnamon sambal
Strongly Crunchy when cold
Soft when warm
Sensitively sweet compared to other sugar covered things
A mix of traits that I’ve grown to quite like
So Knowing you doesn’t bother me anymore
Knowing you only makes me feel better actually
A bit of you lightly shared
Even over salty crackers and stale bread
Brings natural delight to the day
Motivated for hours without a care for a break
Like a favorite film that plays on TV 📺
I have grown to appreciate the commercials over time
Looking forward to the main movie still
but doing my thing in-between each scene
Just know I will continue to check for what’s in-store
know that I appreciate you more than I did
know I will continue to grow and believe you will too
know that if I still check you despite these changes,
It’s out of love for the you I’ve come to know
know I am grateful for every spoon
